    Latest Ebay\Paypal trick

I have just sold my daughters EX11 on Ebay as she has now got her FIRST boyfriend and has lost interest. The guy paid by Echeque via Paypal. I was looking forward to getting the money when Paypal announced that they were "Holding the money" until I get positive feedback or 21 days have elapsed without a dispute. I have a good Ebay and Paypal record but apparently this stands for nothing. I do believe that I have a decent buyer. But, if you did get a poor buyer, like some of them never leave feedback. Or, you could get one that goes out and uses it for 3 weeks then decides he does not want it etc. I am starting to look round for another online way to buy sell and pay.

hi miffin,i dont send anything unless the money is in my account, someone tryed paying me by echeque,so i informed them they will not receive item until payment is received in full and suggested if they require it sooner instant payment is the way to go and apologised, you have to be very careful as you say they could send it back after the 3 weeks it takes to clear, everything is in favour of the buyer these days on ebay,i dont know where ebay got the holding payment until positive feedback is left, thats crazy 8O

You are right mate. It is the first echeque I have ever had so didn't know. They are certainly a money grabbing lot. I asked them if I could have interest on my money. They said no, unless I joined something or other else which I did not understand either.

yes it gets totally complicated and they say its to make transactions safer and simpler, yeah right pull the other one ebay, now in every listing i do i put instant payment required, and if paying by cheque ,item will not be sent until funds have cleared,i state that in every listing just so its clear, had no probs since and had no negative feedback since i started six years ago,but paypal dont make it easy either ,its so easy to click the echeque payment instead of instant, done it myself a couple of times and didnt get items until it cleared

kevsters right, dont send anything until you either see the physical balance or cleared to bank...tip, refund the buyers e cheque as its not an instant payment, if they want it watch how quick they pay if not re list.e cheques are a waste of everyones time. :bad:

I wish I could do that now but Ebay stated that I had to post it straight away so I have sent it. If I refund the echeque now, I may end up not getting paid at all. I will know better next time.

    I had something similiar happen.

I bought a TomTom Go 920 on e-bay with loads of extras for over £186.

Within 12 hours the guy mailed me to say that the battery would not charge up and he could not sell it in that condition or I would have to wait until after xmas for him to get it sorted out by TomTom.

Under the circumstances he would refund the money through Paypal bearing in mind he was paid using Paypal in a couple of minutes the refund was put on hold by Paypal for couple of weeks until the returned money had been cleared by the banks.

After mails from myself complaining to Paypal about my lack of confidence in their system it took another 5 days to get the money through their sytem to my bank account.

Total time 3 weeks to get my own money back for no goods received having been let down by the seller.

To make it worse Pay pal still made a charge for their services as it was an e-bay problem that started it all off.

Iam not a happy bunny with e-bay and oh yes I also sold an item on e-bay and under the system the buyer did not put up any feed back and that with held clearance of his money to me.Jerry.

When i get an echeque i just send them a mail saying thanks for your payment, i will send your item when your echeque clears, thanks and regards.......

Its that simple, sometimes they cancel the cheque and send instant payment, if not then its a long wait :P you get a mail to say when its cleared too.

They did that to me Bri when I sold my Sov Gt, said it would be released when I recieved positive feed back.
I sent a very strong email to them and a nice one to the buyer, who also complained when she returned from a short holiday a week after I sent the detector,
BUT three days after being informed they were holding MY money, the email, threatening leagal action over the theft of £300 from my account seemed to work, I have a 100% selling record with ebay/paypal and only ever had one disput when buying, which was also pointed out.
When they got back saying as it was a large sum of money they needed to be carefull.
I asked why they did it for this £300 and not the £900 I sold a lens for, or a few weeks later for the £850 I got for my camera, they soon put MY money where it belonged mate.

In this guys defence, he now tells me he pressed the wrong key to send the echeque. When it evenutually got to my account, Paypal told me that I must post the item straight away or they will not release the money until the feedback comes and then it is at there discretion they may hold it for 21 days. So, I fell for it and posted it. I will know better next time though. Thanks for your input.

Oh heck Steve. It seems very common then. I did send a really nasty email which they replied to. I backed it up with 2 more mails. But as yet I have not had them release the money.

Miffin when you get an echeque paypal advise you not to send the item until its cleared, even if the buyer has a moan about waiting, you tell him ebay and paypal advise it and thats what your doing as you dont know him from adam.
What will you do if the cheque doesnt clear and he has your tector 8O

Ive had 2 cheques that havnt cleared but doesnt matter as i havnt sent the goods :P

No, this was different to that Neil. I have just copied and pasted what they told me below.

PayPal and eBay are working together to make it safer than ever to buy on eBay. One of the boldest steps is to identify transactions that pose the greatest risk of fraud and holding the payments from sellers for a period of time to help ensure that the transactions go smoothly.

To get access to the funds sooner, please post the item as soon as possible. We'll release the payment for the eBay item when one of the following occurs:

    * The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
    * It's been 21 days since the payment date and you haven't received a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction being held

    Additional hold period

If you do receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction hold, we may hold the payment until the problem is resolved.

    How annoying is that.

That 21 days thig is crap, that basicly saying the buyer has 3 weeks to use/abuse/break/decide they dont want it and send it back/complain, its bollocks, ebay is falling appart, why, cos they decide its not working.
I purchased the etrac pirate video, what a mess on trying to get my money back, until I mentioned the fact i am a member of the site it was ripped from and knew the founder of the site, all of a sudden I was refunded, funny that eh.

Well, I don't want to copy and paste it again whiggy but if you don't believe it read the reply I sent to Neil. It is genuine. Steve C had the same thing. They only do it for certain things, mostly electronic stuff. Or, if you have not got good feedback. But I have ace feedback. I can see the problems. Ebay and Paypal is very convenient. If I eventually get my money, I will probably still use them as there is no competition at the moment..
