Wise detectorists wear gloves as there are many types infections in soil just waiting for a open wound. Jerry.

everyone knows about the tetanus risk ,but the less life threatening risks are nasty stuff like tapeworm ,threadworms ,ticks from the grass and even leaches .not forgetting gnat bites that can get infected if scratched with dirty hands
i normally only wear the gloves when im going through the spoil though
    dont forget kneepads either

Got to agree about wearing gloves. I use a lightweight pair from Homebase for both beach and inland detecting now, I never used to wear any but wouldn't be without them now.

didnt realize there was as much infections to be caught from the ground, i turned plug with spade, used pinpointer and target was off slightly to side so i put my hand in. prob should have just cut a bigger plug! wont get caught twice
