    Beach scoop preferences

Hi everyone, I'd like to hear what people like or think is the best beach sand scoop and why. I've only been a coin shooter and relic hunter on solid ground, but would like to try some beach hunting, both in the water and out. I see all kinds of scoops for sale and some are quite expensive. I know there must be a bunch of folks out there who have tried several different types and brands of scoops. So all you experienced people please voice your opinions !! Thanks, Gunsil

I remember Scott "Iron Mask" selling some, they looked realy good quality. As for price its the old saying, you get what you pay for.

Check out stavrscoops. Awesome things...well-made, light, and built to last. Ruslan is also top notch to deal with. Good luck in your search.

Forget the plastic one they are not worth the effort and will probably break when you are in a hot spot.

Invest in a good quality metal scoop that will last for years. My preferrence is for a full bucket ali scoop with long handle.

I should be back in business very soon. Just getting a new supplier under way. Working out the details on the design changes and surface finishing.
    Will keep you updated.

Scott's ( Iron Mask ) scoops are excellent, I use one on a regular basis, as are Stavrscoops, since you are stateside Gunsil you have a wide range to pick from but most recommend stainless steel mouths if you pick aluminium scoops or preferably stainless scoops as I mentioned earlier. The beauty of a custom scoop is handles can be chosen to suit you both angle, diameter, material and length.

    Thanks Darryl
My newest design will be even stronger and made from a better quality stainless. Also working on a handle.
Just need a few weeks to work out some details.
Hoping the price for scoop without handle to be about 90 quid incuding delivery to anywhere. With handle will add about 20 quid max I would imagine.
Depending on the material and shipping.
    Will keep you updated.

Plastic ones only good for sifting fine dry sand, the one on you tube wouldn't last 2 minutes in the wet, carpe diem (buyer beware).

Mine are with a 70-75 degree standard angle. The handle will be make the scoop as a two piece. With option for knee high.
Will have very small holes in the bottom of the basket and should catch lead fish weights and small chains and bits. The holes will start large near the mouth and sides and gradually get smaller. Will be a strip in the middle with no holes until the the small holes start. This will allow fish weights to roll down to the bottom of the basket.
How to have some poics soon.

    Re: Beach scoop preferences

I can vouch for Iron mask scoops as well.

    Very tough.

For use in the sea and on dry sand.
For wet sand on shoreline you may also want a lighter plastic scoop.

Thanks everbody, the Stavr does look really good, Iron Mask can you post a couple of photos?? Rob, carpe diem means "seize the day" buyer beware is caveat emptor. My favorite latin expression is non illigitimus carborundum or don't let the *******s wear you down!!

The T Rex made by Ron DeGhetto in New Jersey is a heck of a stainless steel scoop, tough and just the right size holes for trapping small pieces of jewelry. I use a wooden post hole digger handle on mine.
