    Absolute NOOB

Hi all, as you can probably tell by my "forum" name im a complete novice to the detecting scene and of course to these forums.
My real name is Kevin, im 48 and from Belfast NI, i have just got a new E Trac this very morning Yaaay (getting some killer looks from the wife ) and am trying V hard too read through the manual but there is quite a lot too take in so ill have too keep returning to it for a while i think.
I think ill stick with the presets for now until im more familiar/confident enough too mess up...... er, i mean fine tune the settings
being new i have no permissions so will have too hit the beaches for now too get used too the machine and will be sure to come back too let ya all know how i got on, i might take my camcorder along just too see if i can multi task
anyway i just thought id pop by and say hello..... so HELLO

Hello Kevin. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your time here.
You have just bought a great machine but it will take a learning curve to get the best from it. There is no other place on-line where you can get more info about it than on the mlo forum.
PS. When you search forum in the search function make sure to adjust the "search date" to get the most results.
Do an advanced search and add more filters.

hi welcome to the forum, the etrac is an awesome detector.......its a bit of a b***h to start with but well worth the pain
i would recommend using conductive tones, i started on ferrous and then converted to conductive, in hindsight i wish i had started on conductive it would have saved a lot of time and hassle.

    Welcome here.
Same advice, don't despair. ET needs good nerves. Don't push the sensitivity too high the first couple of times out.
Noise cancel before you start. Let us know how you get on.
If you can afford the ET, it pays to go platinum, sooner or later you will anyway.
    Have fun.

    Hi Kevin,
You'll have great time detecting. I can't give you any direct help since I've never owned an ET, but I'm sure others will give you expert help and tips.
The beach is a great place to start.

    Hi "Noob"
You've got a great detector - your wife will get over it - mine did, all 8 of them... ...
Seriously, welcome to MLO. Search the video section for Etrac and you'll find some great videos covering anything and everything you might, or not, want to know about your machine.

    Re: Absolute NOOB

Thanks peeps for the great welcome and support, i have watched many YT vidz of peeps (a few from these forums) with all sorts of units from Garretts to Deus before deciding that the ET was the machine for me although i was going too go for the Explorer 2 but thought "WTF" why not just tip the wife over the edge (GOD HELP ME)
I know it will take time but so does getting out of bed in the morning (for me anyway :P )
So thanks once again for the welcome and i hope to have some results to show you all before long

Oh, nearly forgot too say HH heehee

    Re: Absolute NOOB

Yep, you got yourself a great machine. The first few times out it might not seem like it, but perservere.
Some great eTRAC finds and information has been posted here, just search them out.

Sticking with the factory presets is a good idea the first couple times out and i agree with Tombs, stick with conductive tones at least for a while until you get to know the detector.
    Good Luck

    Re: Absolute NOOB

If you haven't got it already I would recommend Andy Sabisch's book on the Etrac/Explorer. Lots of good videos here on MLOTV Tube as well. Good luck out there and don't give up!

yeah i know of Andy's book but i think its best too take it slow for now but its on my list along with "Permission Impossible" i doubt ill give up, i spent a lot of money on this machine and although im not the most mobile off people (old injury) i love getting out and this is the incentive too do just that
