I may have posted about this before but here goes. Watching bits of the Olympics and hearing the anthem God Save the Queen really annoyed me, In my opinion it should be changed, I stand corrected if im wrong but I beleive that it is the only one which glorifies the person rather than the people or the land.
I would be proud to stand hand on heart and sing for the people or the country but never for an individaul, be it royalty of other.
Any suggestions for an alternative.

Thats would be a joke LOL , Britain has not ruled the waves since 1925 , and i do mean 1925 . Thats when we were overtaken by the US in terms of size of fleet or at least the power of it, the Jap's were not far behind either and both were much more powerful by 1939. Especially the carriers and the aircraft flown . So i say unless we are going to spend £400 billion a year on defence we cant boast Rule Britannia ! Anyway Europe rules Britannia
On a personal note I think we should keep our present national anthem. I am not really a Royalist but can you imagine what sort of an anthem we would end up with if we scrapped the current one??,....
It would be a load of left wing crap that apologises for our past history, wars etc and colonisation of other parts of the world. It would also have to pander to all the minority groups, religions & ethnic groups,...It would be a disaster!! They would be delighted if they could further remove any trace of what it really means to be English, Scottish or Welsh. I for one am proud of our countries history.
Im for a change just make sure a new National Anthem is not made by some stupid boy band, George (toilet) Micheal or them bloody spice girls
but johnny rotten could make a good National Anthem for all.

I didn't know that either! So i googled it to find out more.
Seems something called the Anacreontic Society, a group of London Musicians originated a song called 'To Anacreon in Heaven' of which the melody was used for our National Anthem. The song was popular in both England and America at the time. Don't know what Anacreon means though.
There were/are movements by some lefty groups here to change the National Anthem, too much rockets red glare, bombs bursting in air, for them i geuss. They're also trying hard to scrap the Pledge of Alegence in Public Schools, too much One Nation Under God for them.

Second they are fitted for but not with anti ship missiles , or anti sub torpedo'es or anti balastic missile capabilty. Check out the Arleigh Burke and the latest Japanese and the latest South Korean and Norwegian and Spanish and soon Australian Destroyers, the word is AEGIS command and control system. The American's have a population of 310 million or so and we have 62 million or so. We have 6 Daring class and the US has around 65 Burke class in service with 30 + planned in the next few years. Thats one class , they have AEGIS Cruisers and many frigates , we have 13 aging frigates that if we get 13 to replace i will eat my CTX .

Just reality, and we have 6 Nuke subs other than the Trident boats and of those only 2 or 3 operational due to training ,leave and refits and 1 having to guard the Trident boat at sea.
This country would rather spend on silly things like bonus's scroungers and bribes to voters than pay the countries insurance premiums.

I can`t disagree with any of that. Tony Blair along with his side kick Jack Straw have ruined this country to such a degree they should be facing Criminal charges of at least ,high treason.
But both still live a lavish lifestyle courtecy of the British people they were traitor to. I hope one day they will answer for their crimes against the UK citizens.
I originaly asked for veiws about an alternative National Anthem which related to the people and the land, rather than the individual. I am very patriotic to the country and its people, I have also served in the forces, As the post as gone way off track from the original question. Land of Hope and Glory is the one - the current anthem is a dirge! Jerusalem - I love the song and music - and I know what it is really about - but who wants Jerusalem in this country? As far as I'm concerned it (Jerusalem) should have been sent with the Mars Rover along with all the religious lunatics who live there. Not the ordinary decent folks, I'm sure that there are a lot of them.

Captain , in terms of the way we feel about this country being lead by a load of lead brained numpties you are right.
As for the national anthem , it can always go back on topic and off just as many threads do .
35 years taking a very interested view of the forces has me very q!55ed at the way they are being treated and this country.
