    Sunday's nine hour river session

It's been a terrible year this season for river detecting with all the rain and floods we've had here in England. But yesterday we finally manage a full days detecting. We were searching the upper reaches of the Great Ouse, on stretches never detected before.

Most of what was found were the normal array of lead fishing weights. But Ed my detecting partner did manage a large Lizzy hammered, and there were a few Roman coins. The ring in the image below started life as a Roman bracelet, and has been shortened to a finger ring.

We were both using CTX 3030's in my Muppet program.

I can't believe how the time flew, we started at 9am and dragged ourselves out at 6pm, about half a miles upstream.

Yeah, you're never guaranteed a Viking halfpenny.... but we were both pleased with this lot.... it shows us there will be more on future sessions

Very nice finds Gordon, well found. Just got 3/4 mile of River Kennett to detect, he said authorities have dredged some parts of it so i am hoping some stuff will still be in there. Just got CTX30/30, so still sussing it out on land first . The Viking coin is a pukker one looks mint now cleaned up , well deserved well done buddy

Nice finds. "Water finds" seem to hold finer detail than dirt fishing for coins, after cleaned.
