Wink Etrac - Brand New Metal Detector - Hello Everyone

    Hi Everyone

This is my very 1st post. I bought my 1st metal detector today - an ETRAC after much research.

I live in North Somerset, England. I am looking forward to learning how to use a Minelab Etrac. I will be looking for help from forum users.

Can anyone explain how I should start (stage 1)? Obviously I need to read the manual etc, but what settings should I use if I want to go out tomorrow, just to try it out and get to know the machine?

Hope to post regularly & enjoy seeing posts & info from everyone.
    This looks a great forum.

    Thanks

    Fisherrich

Welcome to the forum, I had an Etrac for three years and the best advice I can give you is to start using it with the preset factory programs, stay with these settings until you have got use to it, then advance onto other programs which are on the forum. Some of the programs are only available to Platinum members they pay an annual fee which is well worth it. Good luck with your new machine, an excellent choice.

Hello and welcome, you've got a good machine. Try out the factory programmes, move on to Tony Hunt's fairly rapidly. Don't be too eager to push up the sensitivity until you get used to the tones.

@fisherrich. You got a good machine, don't take no notice of some lads jebbing you.

When you get to your detecting spot with a factory programm set up, start off doing noise cancel as in the book,
and don't push the sensitivity up too high. Better run it in auto sens at first. Keep the coil parallel to the ground, slow sweeps, listen to the tones and dig and see what targets you get with which tone. Be patient, tricky machine at first, but rewarding if you stick at it.
    Good luck!

    Listen to Jeff!
Your first outing or two, as Jeff mentioned, use Factory settings. I found hundreds of coins with Factory settings.
If you're after non-ferrous coins, use that Factory pattern, etc., etc.
Above all, don't be discouraged your first few outings. It'll all fall into place. After a while (and finds), you'll realize you have one of the best detectors out there.

Hi Fisherrich, Im in the same boat as you, I got my Etrac a few weeks ago and Im loving it ! Im using Tony Hunts settings, as some of the others have already reccomended. I use response " normal" and leave sensitivity on " auto + 3" setting and Im getting along with it much better than I thought I would.

Theres still a long long way to go , but Ive taken the machine out at every opportunity even if its just for an hour or two, and Im gradually getting more familiar with it.

You can find Tonys settings here. http://www.minelabowners.com/forum/s...reject+pattern

    Good luck !

Hello and welcome to the forum.
The best advice I can give you is to go to platinum and join us at Bedford and/or Corfe rallies and get university like support. The infield support will sink in a lot faster and you give you loads of confidence.
There will be 50 to 100 of us as those rallies and most of us at one time or another use or used an e-trac or SE.
Enjoy your time here and enjoy your great machine.

What Scott (iron mask) said about joining us at Corfe would make sense, plus its not to far from your home in Somerset. Some members stay the week some a couple of days.

Thats debatable, you use the Blisstool coke king dont you??

Fisherrich, put in Gordons tadpole program (might cost yer £15 if your not a platinum member) and dig every two-way signal.

Many thanks to Mike yesterday, (who pm'd me on here) for kindly showing me the workings and settings capability of my new ETRAC.

Great help Mike and saved me a lot of time trying to fathom out the machine.
