Welcome, the Etrac is great on the beach, there is advice on here if you hit the Forum tab you'll see at least 2 fora dedicated to beach detecting and one for the etrac. The Etrac has got a reputation for not finding thin gold chains. I've never found one with any detector but taking some of the sdvice on here and opening up the screen a bit will improve your chances.

When you find the first ring you won't worry about fiddly bits of chain. Enjoy.

Youve picked a fantastic machine one of the top ones on the market, there are a few beach programs listed on the forum. You will get penty of help here, ask the question and someone will give you the answer. When you find your first gold ring its an amazing feeling. I live about 5 minutes walk from the beach and over a thityfour year period I cannot remember how many I found. If you intend on consentrating on the beaches you will have to learn all about them ie watch them everyday for changes ect. Have patience the goodies will come. Welcome to the site. Being a platium member would help you as you have access to all sorts of programs ect.

When a metal detector sends a signal into the ground, eddy currents are induced in metal objects.
These eddy currents give off a signal which the detector receives.
A chain isn't an object, its lots of very small single objects. These can each only give
a very tiny signal which is hard for any detector to receive.
It's a different story with thick chunky gold chains.

Good luck with the etrac, It may drive you wild at first, but be patient and you will be rewarded.

    Welcome 2 the 4um.
