My CTX Finds From Sunday 1st July 2012

    CTX 3030
Out detecting today with the CTX 3030 on a stripped turf field got the finds below but none came from any great depth, a Irish James Shilling, a Lizzy Half Groat, a Henry 5th Penny York Mint, a George 1st Farthing and other bits and pieces.
Eyes only my oldest ever find a Bone & Flint Neolithic Knife about 4000 years old 4¼" long, I presume it would have been used for cutting and skinning animal carcases.

    Lovely finds well done

Why Waste time using an ordinary detector when you have the option to use a GPX4800.

A terrific selection of finds - very well done.

I spent most of July 1st gardening and found it more tiring than detecting. I must either do it more often or not at all

Wow, incredible stuff. That knife looks like it would still slice through a deer hide without much trouble!

Re: My CTX Finds From Sunday 1st July 2012

Having found various flint tools ( By eyeball) over the past 40 years or so. I can say that I have never ever found one with its bone handle still attached (Extreeeemly rare find normally by Archy's with trowels) You lucky, lucky man.
I have only been detecting since 2009 and sadly, not as often as I would like. But, if I ever I was as good at it as you are, finding that amount of spectacular man-made items, I would again be a very happy bunny. Brilliant, Randy.
And before anyone even thinks that I am a 'flint expert' I aint ... My advice would be to get all the books on it from The Brit Museum or by John Lord, an expert on all things made of Flint.

Hello Guys and thanks for your kind remarks.

I phoned my local FLO today and arranged to pop in this afternoon to get the flint knife recorded and formally identified, I was told that the knife is of significant historical importance and will be forwarded to the British Museum possibly for carbon dating.
