    Unidentified object

Could someone please help me to identify this item. It is 66mm across the base and of a bowl shape with a large rim. The rim is hand punched all of the way round but there are 4 equi-distant holes around the rim. There is a tiny amount of gilding on both sides of the rim.

Our local FLO suggested it might be a post-medieval horse brass? and none of my detector freinds know what it is.

    Cheers

    Lee

Hmmm. Looks like it has a broken hinge and it might have been a flame damper or something. I have something similar somewhere.
    Interesting nevertheless.
    Thanks for sharing.

it's one of two things....... it's either a 'thingy' or 'whatzisname' sorry, couldn't resist.

First impression I got was a hanging basket of some kind! or maybe a hanging bird table/bath? but it definitely has a DIY/home made feel about it. Hmmmmmm.....

Lee, the 4 holes around the edge makes me think horse tack as well....but I don't know about the two three hole clusters in the bowl bit. What's the reverse side look like?

Just had a thought....maybe that's the reverse side there, and the 6 holes were for leather or cloth streamers (further decoration) to hang down? Dunno. Interesting, nonetheless.
