Welcome Metal-mania, Biased having a sovereign, Nuke-em does wonders with a 705 on the coins, not so sure on hot rocks with that. Etrac another good choice, no real help am I

On the wet sand the sovereign is unbeatable for raw power. The E-trac has the same kind of power but is more configurable, I've found it easier to get stable in difficult conditions. Coke isn't really a problem with either although there's a touch more coke falsing coming through on the E-trac, you can stick a thin black line round the screen to settle it down if the noise gets to you. Had no problems with either on hot rocks.

CTX 30/30 because its the latest machine and is submersible plus with its amphibious qualities it can turn to land and its as deep as an Etrac Ive been watching a few user videos now as more and more users are putting up there finds and views on the CTX. From what I have seen so far it looks very good, I was a little worried about how it would be at first due to all the negative vibes on the forum but like I say from what I have seen so far from users its a very good all rounder, it would be even better if the price came down.

I'd still say the Sov, an old XS2a pro would be cheap and deep, waterproof too if its belt mounted under a coat. I use the E-trac because I detect mostly on land but if I were sticking to the beaches I'd have stuck with the Sov.

CTX would be tempting but I'd want an outing with someone using one first.

Sound advice, I wouldn't part with my Sov but I would love to try a CTX

Go for a Sovereign, still got my old XS, had lots of fun with it and they go really cheap on e-bay. The 705 Nukem uses is used on a shingle beach, it would not be brilliant on the wet sand, whereas any Sovereign, E-trac, Explorer or XS will do well, it all depends how deep your pocket is.

any soverign for the same reason minelab built their designated water detector on and that's 17freq and you cant argue with that

CTX - no because its to new and for me needs to be learned ,also depends on the beach and what part of the beach like the ET.

Sovereign - no because especially on shingle with to much non ferrous trash you wont have much of a clue what is what. Also nulls on iron. Good on sand but not as good as -

E.Trac and lesser degree Explorer XS/11/SE - Yes on sand but nulls on iron or bonfires sites if a disc pattern is selected . Very good finding coins and you will know what is what when you get to know it.

X.Terra 705 - Yes on shingle deep , no on wet sand not deep . Finds lot for me on shingle beaches and not bad telling whats what.
Rarely nulls and i pull coins out on shingle that the ET or Explorer will miss.

If on shingle i would pick the Terra 705 or ET on sand or CTX in the briny blue.

My target stands at £1060.38p this year so far. £1891.45p last year and £1220.44p in 2010 .

Hard to beet the good old Excalibur if your planning some
    time in the drink

Unless you are loaded 3030 to expensive.
You can pick up a Explorer 2 for a good price now 15in sef or wot
Put a extension cord on it and put in a waterproof backpack.
Will get flamed for this but its the deepest of the range on the wet sand.

You up on the sand or in the water? What's the budget? These would all factor into it. I used a Sovereign Elite for years on the beach and wet sand and it was awesome. I now use an Etrac and it's great too...more adjustability but I would almost give the depth advantage to the Sovereign (don't quote me on that...just a feeling). If you're actually IN the water then it would be the Excal I would imagine. Of course the arrival of the new CTX shakes everything up...the jury isn't in yet but this could be the best all-rounder yet.

If you're thinking about a CTX, Gravediggermax is currently using one around the Virginia beaches both in and out of the water, he has a Youtube Channel, a real user review from an experienced guy

I agree with Chipmonky on the Excal. I had a Sov GT and found it excellent on the beach but traded it in for an Excal as I was mainly out in inclement weather and was always concerned with damp/water ingression even though I had a cover for the control box.

I would go with the Excal as well. I have an Excal for just beach detecting and I keep my E Trac high and dry for on land.

Keep an eye on flea bay, they come up every now and then and prices are pretty good.
