Yes it should generally pinpoint right in the centre, but every so often my etrac also pinpoints to the forwardmost edge of the coil...no idea why. Probably warrants a bit of investigation...might try some tests next time I'm out!
    Etrac with NEL coil/Excall II/Stavrscoop/Lesche Digger/Garrett ProPointer.

With a Double-D coil the pinpointing is either at the front centre or the rear centre - i.e. just outside the coil. I reckon this is more precise than concentric coils which do pinpoint in the centre.

It should pinpoint pretty much dead center of the coil....close to where the stem connects to the coil, or slightly in front of it. Close to where the coil support ribs (the big 'X') meet in the center. You can air test it to be sure, and get that particular spot on your coil fixed in your mind. Every detector pinpoints in slightly different spots, this is what I've done with every machine I've had.

X DOES mark the spot, on some detectors!!

I've just realised that you're probably talking about using the pinpoint button - something I rarely do! I stay in "detect" and use the coil for pinpointing. It seems easier to me and avoids button pushing so it is quicker. Doing it this way the pinpoint is, as I already said, at the centre front or back of the coil whichever suits you, personally I find the front the best.

I agree with those who say dead center of the coil. A modest tip would be to perform an air test and get a little sticker to mark the top of your coil on the spot that your machine said your target should be. I tried this with my SE and it worked for me until I calibrated my eyes. One more suggestion is to use pinpoint to locate your targets whereabouts and slowly back the coil away until you hear no sound, your target will be directly in the lil valley (v) the front of your coil creates. Hope this helps HH!
