Have I got a faulty SEF?

    Hi all

I bought an 8x6 SEF for the E-trac specifically for searching stubble. I Used it for the first time in the stubble this week and the falsing was unbearable 8O unless I dropped my sensitivity down to 22. Before you ask I pretty much use Slow's set up so I'm used to the normal ear bashing!

    My questions are...

Should I be able to run the little SEF at full sensitivity in stubble or do you have to dull it down?

Have I got a dodgy coil?

    Boozer

I had a faulty 15 x 12 SEF that Neil and Gary both used and discovered the same problem. I have since returned it to where I bought it.
The thing was that Gary and I both had not previously used it and we thought that it was just us. Then Neil told us that when he used it there was a problem.
I think the problem was where the lead enters the coil.
    Cheers

I used my 18x15 sef flat out in the stubble there was only an area about 10ft wide running across the feild with the silver staters came fom and the next one across which was exsesively noisy the rest of the area was no problem i kept mine flat out all the time.
I would assume that the coild or detector has a fault if you were able to se a diferent coil ok then its the coil at fault obviously then.
    best of luck

I would say the coil may be iffy I run mine hot in stubble without much of a problem
Infact it’s that little baby that winkled out my Celtic Stater at Corfe in the stubble this year..

Mines more stable than the pro coil.

Except with low batteries (down to 1 bar) working close to a mobile phone mast. Just couldn't get control of what was going on until I changed the batteries.

The site was very highly mineralised - I'll give it another go on cleaner ground. Thanks!

The little SEF you can normally run maxed out, even on mineralised ground.

    Is it erratic?

Does it run ok on other sites?

For what its worth my 8x10 had the same problem on a site, but elsewhere it seems fine. I think it was something to do with it being more sensitive than a normal sized coil. Still even at a sens of 18 I got a sceat, so iam keeping it.

Always run mine maxed out and it sometimes chatters a little but not like you're saying, good idea to try some other land before sending it back or if possible on a different machine or get a different point of view from someone on here if you can

Coil was Faulty - slightest knock against your welly, hand etc.. produced a signal

    New coil is spot on!

I know Sef are popular coils, but I've lost count the amount of times people are having to send them back.Their quality control surely needs looking at.Any other product would have had a product recall by now.
